People, go take a listen to otipêyimsiw-iskwêwak kihci-kîsikohk, Métis in Space Podcast right now. They just finished their first season and it is glorious! Basically, take two marvellous, foul-mouthed nerdy Métis women, drinking red wine and watching Hollywood-made SF. And ripping gigantic holes White colonial narratives in the process. I. LOVE. IT. Chelsea and Molly are hilarious. They are relentless and that is perfect. This podcast is made by Indigenous women for an Indigenous audience, so they have no will (and no reason) to coddle the poor White people whose ass is getting ripped. They also have no mercy for academics, because we deserve it, every last bit of it. The "Ask a môniyâw" segment are the best part.

So, yeah, I'm a fan. They don't want to be studied by White academics without previous permission and compensation so, Reader, bear that in mind. I'm just gonna wait for season two, help them along when the crowdfunding campaign starts and listen. 'Cause these girls are great.

When I was poor, just out of grad school and jobless, I passed the time watching television and trying like hell to make it useful. The up-side was that I kept my brain working and that it was relatively cheap. So long as we had cable, I could do research.

Then I became a professor and the research never got written down as articles for lack of time. Which is sad. Enjoy the first of a few old presentations on Star Trek and sci-fi television:

Live action Cat Women, in order

1. Eartha Kitt, because OF COURSE!!!! How could you not think that Kitt is the best of all the live action Cat Women? It's Eartha-effing-Kitt! She was born to be Cat Woman! She was Cat Woman! [Yes, I thought she was hot, even in old age, she was HOT!]

2. Julie Newmar, because duh! Nothing more to say.

3. Michelle Pfeiffer, wonderful renewal of the character personality traits.

4. Lee Meriweather, great actress but was only there to replace Newmar, and it showed.

6. Anne Hathaway, good actress but completely unbelievable as this character. Sorry, there is no universe where Hathaway could have pulled it off. She was not made for the part. I am still at a loss as to why she was cast.

6. Halle Berry, good actress stuck in a morass of bad movie making, there was nothing to save her from this cinematic disaster. No matter what she could have done, she could not have made it good.
